After finally analyzing and discussing a few music videos and collecting ideas we finally sat down and decided on what our main ideas were for the music video. We all decided on a similar idea to Jessie J's 'Whos Laughing Now' as this would be simple for us to recreate within the college. Also we though it showed a clear idea of the genre that it was within and what we wanted to portray for our coursework.
We decided the main locations we would need were:
- Outside school
- Classroom
- Corridor
- Canteen
- Hall
- Playground
Though only one of these locations would be used for the performing shots and the rest for the narrative throughout the music video. We also thoughout about the people we would need to create the music video such as the main performer and the performer for the narrative parts of the music video, along with a few extras in the background.

Jessie J Performing Shots analysis.
For this analysis I looked deeply into the music video of Jessie J's 'Who's Laughing Now' as it gave us some good ideas towards our own music video we wanted to create. I looked specifically at the performing shots throughout as they were typical of the pop genre. This helped give us some more ideas in the ways we should create ours such as keeping consistency throughout the music video and showing the performer looking directly into the camera as she performs the song.
Analysis of performance shots.
Following the study of previous music videos within the genre I was focusing on, I decided to look at another female pop singer, Rihanna, and studied her performance shots within the first 30 seconds of the music video. They were quite different to other music videos I looked at as she wasn't looking directly into the camera and only into her reflection.
More Genre Research.
Before we could ultimately decide upon our music video and ideas we wanted to use for it, we decided to look at existing music videos within the genres we wanted to make a music video within. We began by looking at:
- Taylor Swift (You Belong With Me)
- Jessie J (Who's Laughing Now, Nobody's Perfect)
- The Saturdays (Ego)
- Pink (Perfect, So What, Stupid Girls)
We chose these specific songs and artists because they fitted straight into the Pop genre and all followed a narrative along with performance shots throughout so they kept their genre clear throughout. As we watched each of these it helped give us ideas of a narrative to create throughout our music video along with have a main singer, singing the lyrics throughout. This helped with our research as it gave us background on the genre and exactly what is expected of us when we create our music video in the same genre.
